About Pujas
The Shani Shingnapur Temple is renowned as a jagrut devasthan, meaning it is
believed that the deity actively resides here, offering divine protection. The villagers hold a deep
belief that Lord Shani punishes anyone who attempts theft in the area, which has given rise to the
unique tradition of houses without doors in the village.
The deity, known as Swayambhu (self-manifested), emerged naturally from the
earth in the form of a black stone. While the exact period of its origin is unknown, it is believed that
shepherds from a nearby village first discovered the Swayambhu Shanaishwara statue. This sacred site is
thought to have existed since the beginning of the Kali Yuga.
